Tommy’s Margarita Cocktail Recipe

I enjoyed this margarita during happy hour at El Segundo restaurant in Sechelt, BC.

The margarita recipe was created in the 1990s by Julio Bermejo of Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco. The neutral sweetness of Agave syrup replaces the traditional orange liqueur used in a margarita and blends perfectly with tequila and lime.

Tommy’s Margarita is a popular happy hour special because the cocktail omits the orange liqueur, often the most expensive ingredient in a margarita.

Ingredients

2 shot Patrón Reposado or Silver tequila
1 shot freshly squeezed lime juice
0.5 shots Agave syrup
4 drops Difford’s Margarita Bitters (optional)
Kosher salt rim
Lime wheel or wedge for garnish

Instructions

Shake all liquid ingredients with ice. Strain into a salt-rimmed glass and top with fresh ice. Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge.
